Care for your shemagh and qahfiya
Cotton keeps its colour and shape when it is treated gently. Follow these rules and every piece lasts for years.
-
Lukewarm water
Never above 40°C. Heat shrinks cotton and fades colour.
-
No bleach, no chlorine
They turn white fabric yellow and weaken the fibres.
-
Press, don't scrub
Squeeze the suds through the fabric. Hard rubbing damages the weave.
-
Gentle detergent only
Use the recommended detergent and never soak for more than 15 minutes.
Shemagh
- A new shemagh: soak in cool or lukewarm water with fabric softener, then dry in the sun.
- Wash it apart from other clothes so no colour transfers.
- Do not tumble dry. Iron on low heat while slightly damp.
Qahfiya
- Hand wash in cool water. Do not wring or twist.
- Reshape and dry flat, away from direct sun.
- Do not tumble dry, and keep the iron off the embroidery.
